ABOUT O&P GLASS
For more than four decades, O&P Glass has been Central Maine’s trusted glazing company. Founded in 1979 as a small partnership, we’ve grown into a leading provider of auto glass, residential windows, and large-scale commercial glass projects. Family-owned from the very beginning, our story is built on craftsmanship, innovation, and service that lasts.
1978
Oakes & Parkhurst Glass is founded in Winslow, Maine by Alan Oakes and Richard Parkhurst.
1981
Business expands with the OPE208 Air Control Panel and auto sunroofs, doubling the Winslow shop size.
1982–1983
Incorporated as O&P Glass; opened a Belfast branch; added stained glass instruction and products.
1984
Acquired Skowhegan Glass, strengthening auto glass services.
1986
Introduced sunspaces and began manufacturing insulated glass and vinyl replacement windows after research in Germany.
1987-1988
Opened additional branches in Belfast, Farmington, and Waterville. Launched Stained Glass Express to serve growing stained glass demand.
1991-1993
Expanded stained glass into mail-order catalogs, installed first commissioned stained glass window, and introduced bullet-resistant glass units.
1995–1996
Secured international contracts for bullet-resistant glass in Canadian embassies worldwide; completed first major airport project at Bangor International.
1998-1999
Relocated corporate offices to Manchester, Maine; purchased Bangor Glass, bringing the total to seven branches.
2000'S
Strategic focus shifts toward commercial glazing projects; residential operations streamlined.
2008
Janet and Richard’s son Tobias Parkhurst joins as an estimator in the Contract Division.
2012-2013
Tobias becomes COO, then owner alongside Soo Parkhurst, ensuring the family legacy continues.
2023
Joe Bedard and Soo Parkhurst completed the purchase of Tobias’s shares, assuming full ownership.
TODAY, O&P GLASS CONTINUES TO BLEND TRADITION WITH INNOVATION, OFFERING EVERYTHING FROM CUSTOM RESIDENTIAL SHOWERS TO LARGE-SCALE COMMERCIAL PROJECTS. OUR COMMITMENT REMAINS THE SAME AS IT WAS IN 1979: QUALITY WORK, DEPENDABLE SERVICE, AND SOLUTIONS BUILT TO LAST.
